释义 | 缠足 chánzú verb dated bind a woman’s feet 缠足The custom of binding female feet. At around the age of seven a girl's feet would be bent double and bound tight with strips of cloth to make them narrow and pointed. The resulting tiny foot was considered to be beautiful and erotic. A bound foot was known as a ‘three inch gold lotus’(三寸金莲) or ‘lily foot’, an expression believed to have originated with a tenth-century imperial concubine who danced on gold lotus flowers on bound feet only three inches long. The practice of foot-binding gradually died out during the early 20th century. |
