| 释义 | 观音 Guānyīn = 观音菩萨 Guānyīn Púsà 观音Guan Yin is known as the bodhisattva of great mercy. In Chinese temples this bodhisattva often takes a female form. Chinese Buddhists traditionally see her as one of the four bodhisattvas. The place of ritual associated with her is Putuo Mountain in Zhejiang Province. Guan Yin is also popularly known as the goddess of childbirth, and she is usually represented as a standing figure with a female headdress, a cape, and a long shawl, holding a vase and a willow branch. The vase is filled with sweet dew, symbolizing the great mercy that she sprinkles over humankind. A boy and girl are often depicted on either side of her. The girl is the daughter of the dragon king, and the boy is the Buddhist disciple, Sudhana. |
