聊斋志异 liáozhāizhìyì noun Strange Tales from a Scholar's Studio《聊斋志异》A collection of supernatural tales from the Qing Dynasty written by Pu Songling (蒲松龄). The liaozhai (聊斋) of the title refers to the author's study. Zhi (志) means ‘record’and yi (异) means ‘something extraordinary’. The stories are often allegories reflecting social realities, and extolling high morality and pure love. Many of them are romantic love stories between men and foxes and ghosts posing as women. |
