| 释义 | 兵马俑 bīnɡmǎyǒnɡ noun terracotta warriors and horses 兵马俑Terracotta models of soldiers and cavalry buried in the tomb of the Emperor Qin Shihuang (→ 秦始皇), located in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province. Construction of the tomb started in about 221 BC, at the beginning of the Qin Dynasty. The Terracotta Warriors were discovered in 1974. To date, four massive sites have been excavated. The biggest pit is 12,600 sq m in area and contains 6,000 life-size warriors including chariots, charioteers, cavalry soldiers, foot soldiers, and archers arranged in rows in a rectangular military formation. The warriors are moulded extremely realistically, each with unique features. |
